Jamshedpur, March 26: The 12-odd Black Cats of deputy chief minister Sudhir Mahto underwent a gruelling session on martial art at a community hall at Ulyan in Kadma.

The training session on martial art, conducted by city-based Black Belt Senei L. Nageshwar Rao, witnessed the commandos learning some new tricks about self-defence. The session also involved a bit of judo and the trick how to release one from the clutches of enemies.

Rao, a resident of Ranikudar, looked confident about his “wards”, who he termed “sincere and hard working”. “Yes, the training sessions went off well and I am happy about the discipline and eagerness shown by the commandos,” he said.

Before leaving for Sri Lanka to represent the country in an international karate championship, Rao (36) added that he was not in a hurry to teach the commandos all in a day’s time. “The opening sessions involved the basics as well as the tricks of self-defence in grave situations. A bit of theory was also incorporated in the morning session,” he said.

After sweating out in the morning, the commandos took part in practical session, which saw the experienced karateka displaying different postures and motions during an emergency situation.

The Black Cats looked confused when Rao freed himself from their clutches within seconds and also floored some with equal ease. The commandos also got inspired by Rao’s fitness. According to Rao, he would fix a training module in consultation with Mahto.

“There are several tricks involved in martial art. I am keen to impart whatever knowledge I have to these security personnel who are doing a responsible job. I’ll teach different tricks to the commandos on individual basis. I am not inclined to hurry with things as it would create complications with the training sessions,” he added.

An employee of Tata Steel sports department, Rao said training the Black Cats would depend on the commitments of the deputy chief minister. “I’ll try to spare time whenever he is in town,” he added.
