Dhanbad: It was sparkling wisdom for students of BIT-Sindri as the year-long diamond jubilee celebrations of the electronics and communication engineering department started with the launch of a lecture series on Monday.

The speakers on the occasion included stalwart alumni Ramji Prasad, professor of business development at Aarhus University of Denmark; former Nasa scientist Neil Dwivedi Pundit who is currently settled in the US; and professor of electrical engineering at IIT-Delhi S.S. Jamuar.

The day's topic was Telecom Industry Revolution and Economic Growth Using Smart Connectivity.

Addressing students in the presence of BIT director D.K. Singh, 1968-batch alumnus Prasad said BITians should look beyond 5G technology.

"We must set a target for 2050 and move ahead with a plan to work on the requirements of technology in the coming days," said Prasad who on Sunday inked a knowledge pact with the Sindri cradle on behalf of Aarhus University.

Dwivedi, who passed out in 1961, shared his experiences as a fresher at BIT. He asked students to feel free to approach old boys. "The North America chapter of BITSAA (BIT-Sindri Alumni Association) is very active and organises regular gatherings," he said.

Jamuar, a student of the 1967 batch, focussed on the future of the telecom industry in India.

BIT director Singh said a host of dignitaries would deliver speeches on topical issues as a part of the diamond jubilee programme of the department.
