Jharkhand reported its second Covid-19 death in November on Saturday as a patient suffering from SARS-CoV-2 infection died during treatment in East Singhbhum, taking the Covid toll in the state to 5,140 and that in East Singhbhum alone to 1,047, the state health department said on Sunday.

As per government records, the last Covid-19 death in Jharkhand was reported on November 15 in Deoghar. According to a bulletin released by the National Health Mission (NHM), the Covid mortality rate in Jharkhand was 1.47 per cent, which is higher than the national average of 1.30 per cent.

The active Covid caseload, which was rising after Diwali and Chhath, has again started seeing a fall in Jharkhand. As per NHM data, Covid recoveries have outnumbered fresh cases of coronavirus infection in the state for the past three days in a row, bringing the active caseload in Jharkhand down to 130 on Sunday.

Ranchi, where the active caseload was nearing 100 in the first week of November, has also reported a sharp fall in the count of active cases. As per government data, there were 62 active cases of Covid-19 in this district by Sunday morning.

However, East Singhbhum, which reported the latest Covid death, has witnessed a spike in the active caseload in the past couple of days. As per government data, at least 31 people were battling Covid-19 in the district as on Sunday morning.

At least 11 of 24 districts in Jharkhand had zero active Covid cases on Sunday. Ranchi and East Singhbhum jointly accounted for more than 71 per cent of the active caseload in Jharkhand, NHM data highlighted.

So far, at least 3,49,124 Jharkhand residents have tested positive for Covid-19 and 98.48 per cent of them have recovered. The state has so far conducted over 1.67 crore Covid tests.

Jharkhand has also failed to achieve its target of administering at least 3 lakh Covid-19 vaccine jabs daily. On Saturday, only about 1.40 lakh residents, less than 50 per cent of the target, were inoculated.
