Former JMM MLA of Silli, Amit Kumar Mahto, on Sunday resigned from the primary membership of the party along with his wife Sima Mahto over the failure of the Hemant Soren-led government to announce the 1932 Khatiyan based employment policy.

Mahto who posted the resignation letter addressed to JMM President, Shibu Soren on his Facebook and Twitter accounts at around 12.46 am said, “The government has been voted to power in the state for protecting and promoting the local language, culture, art, tradition also protecting the interest of the local residents but it has failed to fulfill its obligation."

He further said, “I demanded two steps from the government through my earlier letter of January 20 during which I sought effective steps to protect the local regional languages and also steps to announce the 1932 khatiyan based employment policy.”

Mahto on January 20 wrote a similar letter to Chief Minister, in which he expressed his strong displeasure over the inclusion of Bhojpuri and Magahi in the regional language list of Dhanbad and Bokaro.

Kumar in his previous letter of January 20 also demanded announcement of an employment policy based on the 1932 Khatiyan and further threatened in his same letter that if his demands are not met by the government he would be compelled to resign exactly after a month on February 20.

“It is now more than two years of the new government and we have been insisting on CM for making a employment policy based on Khatiyan of 1932 but we are getting continuous assurances which are yet to be implemented,” he said.

“Even the constitution of JMM calls for preparation of Khatiyan based employment policy giving cent percent reservation for native residents in Group C and Group D category jobs then why the delay is being made is beyond any comprehension,” said Kumar in his letter of January 20.
