Road blocked over water woes

Jamshedpur: Residents of Mango, including women and children, staged a dharna and blocked the main road protesting the erratic water supply in the area.

Over 1,000 people took to the streets and blocked the main road, resulting in disruption of traffic and long queues of vehicles on either side of the road.

The residents, who were peeved at the erratic water supply, were also protesting the lackadaisical attitude of the local civic authorities, who had earlier assured them of a better supply.

?In the past month there was hardly any supply of water and so we met the Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) officials. In spite of our repeated requests, the MNAC officials did not pay heed, forcing us to come out on the streets to register the protest,? said the residents.

However, the blockade was lifted and vehicles were allowed to move after intervention from the district police.

Additional superintendent of police Sudhir Kumar Jha assured the protesting crowd that he would take-up the matter with civic authorities and get the problem solved at the earliest.

?I will meet the officials today and would try to ensure that the problem is solved,? assured Jha.
