College gets ready for final exams

Ranchi: The Ranchi Women’s College assembly, which met on Saturday, decided that the new consolidated prospectus for admission in the college, will be sold college branch of the Oriental Bank of Commerce, by directly submitting a draft/pay order at the bank.

The new consolidated college prospectus will cost Rs 55 and will include details of vocational courses that were started in the college last year.

The meeting also decided that Sudha Upadhyay and Kamla Devi of the chemistry department will act as controller and deputy controller of examinations respectively. A chart of invigilation duty has been prepared for the part III examination, 2004, scheduled to begin from May 25.

Workers’ uproar over pay-scale

Jamshedpur: The Jamshedpur Co-operative College Karmachari Sangh (JCCKS) has in a memorandum, addressed to the chief minister, Arjun Munda, urged him to implement the central pay-scale for non-teaching employees, working in the colleges of the state.

Pointing out the discrimination of pay-scales of the teaching staff and the non-teaching staff of the colleges, JCCKS secretary, B.S. Sinha has demanded that this difference be repaired at the earliest. The JCCKS has sent a copy of the memorandum to the state department of human resources development. In the memorandum, it has been said, that when the BJP-led government was installed in the state, the JCCKS had hoped the long-standing demand of implementation of the central pay-scale will be fulfiled, but the state government has done nothing in this regard so far.

Three criminals apprehended

Ramgarh: Three dreaded criminals, who were arrested on Saturday from a hotel by the Ramgarh police, confessed on Sunday, their involvement in dozens of cases of bank loots, robberies and murders.

At Ramgarh police station on Sunday, the trio admitted their involvement in many crimes before the Hazaribag superintendent of police, Anurag Gupta. Two teams of policemen —one from Ranka and the other from Daltongunj, where these criminals carried out their criminal activities — came here to interrogate them.

Vijay Parv

Ranchi: The Jharkhand Pradesh Mahila Congress on Sunday, celebrated the formation of a Congress-led government at the Centre at a “Vijay Parv” at the Congress Bhavan, Shradhanand Marg. Mahila Congress workers gathered at the party office on Sunday morning and applied gulal on each other. Women folk artists presented a cultural programme on the occasion. A victory procession was also taken out from the Congress Bhavan and culminated at Albert Ekka Chowk.

Everest bid

Jamshedpur: Tripura governor, Dinesh Nandan Sahay on Sunday flagged off a trip to Mount Everest Base camp by a five-member team from the steel city. The team comprises Dinesh Kumar Verma (the team leader), Dale Pasagne, Chandan Kumar Singh, Lovely Singh and Arun Srivastava.

Training camp

Ranchi: The IPS Officers Wives’ Association (IPSOWA), Jharkhand, will organise a vocational training programme for women in Ranchi on Monday. Chief secretary Laxmi Singh will inaugurate the programme at JAP II office, Tatisilwai at 4.30 pm. Under this programme, 45 women members would be trained in knitting, dress designing, beauty culture and health care.

Condolence meet

Ranchi: A prayer meeting will be organised to condole the death of Bharati Bakshi, founder-member of the Ranchi unit of the All India Women’s Conference at Ashok Kunj on Monday evening. Bakshi, aged 76, had, along with others, established the first unit of AIWC in Ranchi at Ashok Nagar in the early eighties. She was actively involved in social activities.

PNB facility

Ranchi: The Punjab National Bank has decided to give more facilities to the locker-holders of the bank. This information was given by the zonal manager of the PNB, Jharkhand circle, R.P. Sharma. Sharma said that all the new locker-holders of the bank would be given free insurance policy worth Rs 2 lakh from the date of taking the locker. Sharma added that this scheme would start from June 30.
