Jawan families unhappy

Ranchi: Family members of two of the three jawans, who lost their lives due to multiple avalanches that struck their posts in the Batalik sector of Kargil in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday evening, have expressed dissatisfaction with the Rs 2 lakh compensation announced by Jharkhand government saying the amount was unbefitting of those who sacrificed their lives fighting for the country.

Havildar Prabhu S. Kirke (43) and sepoy Kuldeep Lakra (22) were from Ranchi's Itki and Mandar blocks respectively. The other jawan, lance naik Bihari Marandi (34), was from Pakur's Hiranpur block.

RMC axe

Ranchi:Mayor Ashka Lakra suspended ward 44 councillor Urmila Yadav for not complying with her directive to file a written complaint explaining allegations of harassment meted out to her during a board meeting on March 27.

Lok adalat

Ranchi: A National Lok Adalat was organised across courts in the state, including Jharkhand High Court, on Saturday in which as many as 8,631 cases were disposed of and Rs 12.84 crore disbursed to beneficiaries.

Tear gas

Hazaribagh: The SDO and four constables were injured in stonepelting on Saturday morning, forcing police to fire tear gas shells to control a 200strong mob of villagers who had blocked Bahimar Chowk on HazaribaghChatra Road with the body of a murder victim, around 15km from town.

Fatal fall

Jamshedpur: One Apu Datta (46), an employee of TML Drivelines, a subsidiary of Tata Motors, died under mysterious circumstances on the company premises on Saturday. Datta was going to punch his gate pass for going out when he fell down.

Electrocution

Jamshedpur: One Cimoti Majhi (40), a resident of village Chairpur in Chandil thana area, died of electrocution on Saturday afternoon when her leg came in contact with a dangling electric wire in the forest region of neighbouring Seraikela-Kharsawan district.

XLRI diplomas

Jamshedpur: Around 808 students of XLRI's various executive diploma courses on Saturday were conferred diplomas during the 15th graduation ceremony for students at the Tata Auditorium on XLRI campus.
