Rebel kingpin nabbed

Hazaribagh: Police on Friday arrested Tilak Ganjhu, the regional commander of the Communist Party of India (Maoist). The arrest was termed to be the biggest catch in recent years.Tilak was touted to be the all-in-all of the Giridih zone comprising Hazaribagh, Giridih, Koderma and Chatra district. Sources said a team especially set up to capture Tilak was constituted after the police received a tip-off. The team, comprising 136 Batallion of the CRPF as well as Chatra police, raided Urab village in Pathalgadda of Pratappur. Tilak had masterminded many attacks on the Giridih police.

Cold kills one

Giridih: Chattu Mia, a daily wage labourer died of cold on Thursday. The 50- year-old was a resident of Ganeshdih under the Bengabad police station. Chattu Mia was returning home from a farm when he succumbed to the cold. The deceased is survived by his son, who is hearing impaired and wife who is visually impaired.

Death sentence

Dumka: Additional district and sessions judge of the Rajmahal sub division, Binoy Kumar Sahay, delivered a death by hanging sentence to a murder accused on Thursday. Five other co-accused in the case were sentenced to life imprisonment. he fate of a teenage girl accused in the case, hangs in balance as her case still pending in the juvenile court in Sahebganj district.

Rape verdict

Ranchi: Jharkhand High Court on Thursday granted bail to M. Ansari, one of the 21 accused of raping the daughter of a Bokaro Steel Employee. nsari was awarded life imprisonment by Bokaro additional session judge on May 22 , 2004, with other accused persons in the case. The news of the order, which was given by a division bench of the Chief Justice N. Dhinakar and M.Y. Eqbal on Thursday, came from Ansari?s advocate on Friday. He said: ?The court has granted bail till the criminal appeal filed by Ansari challenging the additional session judge?s order remains pending.? The victim was raped near Bharra Basti near Kauwali Ground on April 5, 1999.
