Jamshedpur: After a seven-month break, Jam@Streets will be back next month to give Jamshedpureans a reason to smile, dance, eat and run. Call it the Great Morning Walk Festival, Jam@Streets was last held in March before weather played spoilsport for all these months.
To be held on November 12 (Sunday) between 6am and 9.30am on Bistupur Main Road, organisers have promised to make the occasion an eventful one with loads of fun packed with innovative and creative activities.
The biggest draw could be sport lovers getting a glimpse of their favourite Jamshedpur Football Club (JFC) players.
"After the last show, people had told us not to have too many DJ corners since people crowded at one place. The idea was to have a wide variety of activities. This time we are focusing on sports with a special emphasis on JFC players. Although we are yet to take a final call, it would be great if people could interact with the players," Jusco spokesperson Rajesh Rajan said.
From chhau to zumba, painting to puri-bhaji, trampoline to talent hunt, Jam@-Streets will have everything for families and youngsters. This apart, Tata Steel Sports wing will organise basketball, badminton, weightl-ifting, karate, skating, boxing and carrom competitions to give the fest a complete feel.
Envisaged as a green, car-free start to one Sunday a month, Jam@Streets was conceptualised by Tata Steel, Jusco, Jamshedpur Hoteliers' Association and the National Association of Street Vendors in India (NAVSI) to promote health and environment in a unique way in the city. Initiated on the lines of Raahgiri in Gurgaon, New Delhi and Bhubaneswar, Jam@Streets debuted in steel city in February 2016 as a monthly event but had to be scrapped for the last seven months because of weather.
"It gets very difficult for the cooks to prepare food on the street in summer. Then came the rains. Winter is the best time to enjoy good food," said Anil Khemka, president, Jamshedpur Hoteliers' Association that sets up food stalls at Jam@Streets.
Youngsters, too, are excited that Sunday entertainment will be back.
"We have been waiting for this. It's great fun to dance with friends. I missed the thrill for the past few months. It's nice that Jam@Streets is back," said Vidisha Kumari, a second-year student of Jamshedpur Women's College.
