Ranchi, May 15: The International Krav-Maga Federation of India, Jharkhand division, organised a workshop on the Israeli system of self-defence at the YMCA auditorium here today.

Demonstrations also formed a part of the workshop on the self-defence technique, which is considered by many as an advanced form of martial art.

Nirmala Choudhury, the inspector-general of Jharkhand Armed Police, was the chief guest at the event and spoke on the importance of learning self-defence techniques.

The state co-ordinator of the Israeli martial arts foundation, K.K. Singh, spoke on the theory of fear and why and how the human body reacts to a situation that creates fear in our minds.

Going further, Singh explained the advantages of learning the martial art and how easy it was to learn it.

The self-defence technique is based on natural human reactions, or reflex actions, as against kung-fu, karate and most other arts, which are based on animals? reactions, he said.

This makes learning krav-maga easy and much useful, added the state co-ordinator of the foundation.

Participants at the event, especially the girls, were given a crash-course on how to deal with attackers. They were also shown movie clippings to clarify the art and how it is different from the martial art.

Clippings and footage of Jennifer Lopez was shown when she trained for the movie Enough to fight the villains.

The Jharkhand division has also plans to introduce the first batch of the defence system from June 1.

The trainer of the Police Training College Hazaribagh Asraf Qureshi also participated in the workshop.

Qureshi is trained from the National Security Guard Centre, but the Israeli official combat system intrigues him.

?There are no rituals or fixed patterns. It only has adaptations from the different human reflexes and therefore is easier than martial arts. It also boosts confidence and takes less time to impart training added Singh.
