Ranchi, Sept. 14: Close to a year after it was conceived, the Jharkhand Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Jiidco) remains a pipedream.

A brainchild of the state industries minister Ravindra Rai, the corporation would have had the three industrial authorities ? Ranchi Induatrial Area Authority (Riada), Bokaro Industrial Area Development Authority (Biada) and Adityapur Industrial Area Development Authority (Aiada) ? under its purview.

Speaking to the media recently, the industries minister assured that moves are afoot to set up the corporation. He, however, declined to comment on the details.

Director of industries S.K. Singh said, ?The proposal is very important as far as the state government?s industrial policy is concerned.? Another project that is stuck in government files three years after it was proposed is the Santhal Pargana Industrial Area Development Authority (Spiada). The body would have supervised industrial development in the six districts that come under Santhal Pargana.

Singh, however, said there would be no need for Spiada once Jiidco is formed Sources claim that the bureaucracy has been a major hurdle to Jiidco?s formation. ?There is a tendency among bureaucrats to hamper any constructive decision at the ministerial level. They feel that the formation of such bodies will curtail their powers,? said a senior official of the department of industries.

The formation of Jharkhand Infrastructure Development Board, a pet project of former chief minister Babulal Marandi, has been put on the backburner since Jiidco formation was initiated.
