Ranchi, April 19: An independent judiciary is the foundation of a stable democracy, said Supreme Court Justice S.B. Sinha.
He was addressing a seminar on “The Judiciary and the Legal Profession: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow”, organised by the Chhotanagpur Law College here today.
“In the face of challenges, lawyers and judges require to work hard. Legal development is a Constitutional process and is crucial for the good of society. The judicial system is bursting at the seams and a change is inevitable,” said Justice Sinha, a former student of Chhotanagpur Law College.
“The nature of cases filed in the courts these days have undergone a sea change. The bar and bench have to gear up to meet the challenges,” he said.
Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice P.K.I. Balasubramanyan said: “The fundamentals of law can be learned only in the colleges. As a result, these institutes will have to play a crucial role in shaping the minds of the students, who one day will become a part of the country’s judicial system.” The seminar was attended by students, teachers, advocates and judges of the High Court.
