For IIT aspirants looking forward to receive free coaching for entrance test from South Chotanagpur commissioner K.K. Khandelwal, the chance has finally arrived.

Adhunik Group, which had approached the 1988-batch IAS officer to groom 25 deserving students from the state for IIT-JEE free of cost under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme after he shepherded his sons and a nephew to sail through the entrance exams, will conduct a selection test on September 21.

After the written test, Nav Nirman Sanstha, the company’s CSR wing, will interview the shortlisted candidates on the basis of their scores. Finally, 25 students, who have cleared their matriculation in 2014 and will appear for the IIT entrance in 2017, will be selected.

While Khandelwal, an IITian himself (his all-India rank at the exam was 52), will teach the 25 students in physics and mathematics for the next two years, Nav Nirman Sanstha has roped in two noted teachers — M. Banerjee and Tapan Bhattacharya — for chemistry coaching.

The written test, which will be held at DPS-Ranchi, DPS-Bokaro, BNS DAV-Giridih, St Xavier’s School-Ranchi and St Mary’s School-Jamshedpur, will be of two hours. The students will be judged on mathematics and physics.

Apprising mediapersons of the details in Ranchi on Thursday, A. Prasad, executive director of Adhunik Group, said, “Our objective is to churn out meritorious 25 students from diverse backgrounds and with good academic record for cracking the IIT-JEE. We chose Khandelwal as he has a passion for teaching maths and physics.”

Asked why the entrance test would be only on mathematics and physics and not chemistry, he replied: “We just want to test the IQ level of students, which can be gauged if they are able to perform well in mathematics and physics.”

While the coaching will be free, those interested in taking the entrance test will have to cough up a small registration fee of Rs 50. Registrations for the test can be done at 407, fourth floor, Mangal Murti Heights on Harmu Bypass Road from August 30 to September 14.

Forms can be also downloaded from www.nns-iit.org.
