People of Hazaribagh may soon boast an advanced regional training institute of income taxes coming up in Kolghatti area of the district.

Sources claimed that around 18.5 acres behind Vinoba Bhave University (VBU) had already been transferred to the income tax department to build this state-of-the-art centre.

Once ready, the institute, with all modern facilities, will be used for 45-day basic training of newly recruited employees. This apart, regular courses for serving income tax officials up to the commissioner-level will be held here.

Income tax officer (headquarters and administration) Ranjeet Singh Reen said the project map was sent to the National Academy of Direct Taxes in Nagpur recently for approval. "The department has sanctioned Rs 81.53 crore for this project," he told The Telegraph.

Reen further said everything was moving in the right direction and they were expecting to receive the final go-ahead very soon.

"Once the nod comes and tender is finalised, it will not take long to start the work. I think the centre will be functional in another two years," he claimed.

Another senior income tax official said that the central board of direct taxes, New Delhi, had already released Rs 1 crore for construction of the boundary of the institute.

According to him, the institute will have modern infrastructures - right from administrative buildings, classrooms, hostels to indoor and outdoor sports facilities, gyms etc.

"The centre will be at par with those in Lucknow and Ahmedabad. And area-wise, Hazaribagh will be the biggest centre in the country," he claimed.
