Dravid: All eyes on the new captain of the team |
Ranchi, Oct. 17: Jharkhand sports director Amitabh Chowdhary, who was manager of the Indian cricket team on its Zimbabwe tour, last month, believes captaincy will help Rahul Dravid get back his form.
Chowdhary, an IPS officer, said the pressures of the job might bring the best out of the Karnataka batsman, whose form has been a matter of concern.
When asked about the poor form of Dravid in the recent series and the added burden of captaincy on him in the Sri-Lanka series, Chowdhary told The Telegraph: ?It all depends on the circumstances. The pressure of captaincy sometimes works for some players. It might add to the confidence of some. The captaincy has been given to Dravid and it is possible that he might regains his lost form. Let us look forward to it.?
However, he declined to comment on the selection of Dravid over Sourav Ganguly in the series and the prospects of the team under the former.
?The selection has been done by the board which comprises of the best people one can imagine. They have selected the team keeping in mind the best for the team and the country and there is no need for me to comment on the issue,? said Chowdhary.
He, however, refused to comment on the shortcomings and drawbacks of the Indian team.
?The coach is already looking into it and he has already proposed what he intends to do. I should not comment on it,? said Chowdhary.
Chowdhary was all praise about Sourav Ganguly and said he is an outstanding captain as well as a brilliant player.
He also praised Indian wicket keeper and batsman from Jharkhand Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
?Dhoni has performed consistently with the willow as well as behind the stumps. He performed brilliantly during the Pakistan series and was outstanding .
He also performed well in the recently concluded Zimbabwe series. Nobody can point a finger as far as Dhoni's performance in the one-dayers is concerned,? said Chowdhary.
When asked about the drawbacks of the wicket-keeper batsman from Jharkhand, he said: ?Dhoni just has one drawback. He is slightly impatient while he is batting which he needs to work on.?
