Hosts rule at sports meet

Jamshedpur, Nov. 7: Hosts Karim City College led from the front on the first day of the 46th Ranchi University Athletics Meet, which started off at the JRD Tata Sports Complex today.

The hosts notched top slots in the 1500-m sprint, javelin throw and the 200-m sprint (men and women’s section) to lead the medals tally.

The three-day athletics meet that was inaugurated by Governor Syed Sibtey Razi, saw international athlete Ashwani A.C., a student of Karim City College, bag the top slot in the 200-m sprint for women.

The ladies showed the way and men followed suit. Ganesh Chandra Mahato, also of the host college, bagged the first position in the 200-m sprint, thus beginning their winning streak. Nearly 200 athletes from around 20 colleges are participating in the event, which would conclude on November 9.

Governor Syed Sibtey Razi, while addressing the gathering said: “The state should frame a sports policy that would help in developing it further,” said Razi.

Ranchi University vice-chancellor A.A. Khan and other senior officials were also present at the event.
