Jamshedpur, Dec. 8: Mafia don Hidayat Khan alias Hidayatullah Khan was released on bail from Sakchi jail this afternoon.

Khan, an accused in 32 cases, including one pending with the subdivisional judicial magistrate court of Bhubaneswar, was lodged in the Sakchi divisional jail after his arrest in May 2002.

He was arrested by the Calcutta police on charges of possession of illegal firearms.

He was brought to the steel city on transit remand a week later.

Khan’s relatives and associates arrived at Sakchi jail around 2.00 pm today and took him home.

Later when contacted over his cellphone, Khan said he was released on the basis of an order from Jharkhand High Court. The mafia don expressed fear that his life might be in danger.

“There are many people who are out to get me. I may be killed any moment by my enemies. I am not safe here,” he added.

Khan has been acquitted in most of the 32 cases pending in court. He has also obtained bail in the murder case of share-broker Binod Agrawal, which was registered with the Laxmisagar police station in Bhubaneswar.
