Ranchi, March 23: Come May, and weather would no more remain unpredictable in the Jharkhand capital. The Ranchi Met office, equipped with modern gadgets, would provide forecasts you could bank upon.
R.K. Sharan, the in-charge of Ranchi Met office, said the weather office in the city would be upgraded into an automated weather station. It would also be equipped with an automated rain gauge, Sharan announced today on the occasion of World Meteorological Day here.
The theme of this year?s World Meteorological Day was ?Preventing and Mitigating Natural Disasters?.
According to the Met department, the weather offices in all the 22 districts of the state would be equipped with automated system. ?In the first phase, the modern gadgets would be installed in Ranchi and Dhanbad. The modernisation work is expected to be complete by April-end. The automated system would help make real time weather forecasting as the Met offices here would be directly linked to the Pune office through satellite,? said Sharan.
The sophisticated automated system would work with surface observer sensors to be installed near the weather stations. These sensors would record the morning and evening humidity, maximum and minimum temperature and other weather-related data immediately. The collected information would be passed on to the Pune office for analysis and then the forecast would be made.
The real time weather forecast will enable the Ranchi and Dhanbad Met offices provide latest change in the weather condition.
