Ranchi, April 13: Sweta Verma from Jharkhand has topped among female candidates and bagged the seventh position in Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) exam.

Ichcha shakti rakhne se sab kuch hasil ho jata hain (Everything is attainable with will power,” said this homemaker and mother of two children, who chose subjects like labour and social welfare and anthropology.

“I only watched news on TV. When we went for an outing, I carried my books,” said Sweta, a former student of St Mary’s School, Deoghar. She is pursuing a PhD in district administration in Jharkhand-case studies of Ranchi district, under Ranchi University.

“I started by studying NCERT books. I studied for eight to nine hours daily,” she said.

Her husband, deputy administrator of Ranchi Municipal Corporation Mukesh Kumar Verma was a hard taskmaster.

“My wife wanted to study so I decided to give her career a boost even after marriage. I used to regularly check her studies. Sometimes I even used harsh words,” he said.

The academic atmosphere in Sweta’s house has rubbed off on her daughters, Minti Harshita and Diksha Harsh. “We felt encouraged when our parents used to study. When we saw our mother studying, we also used to study. Our outings were limited. But now my mother has bagged the top position, it’s celebration time,” said Diksha.

Meanwhile, the civil service results declared yesterday invited controversy as relatives of several high-ups, including a former minister, police top brass, JPSC member and influential political leader figured in the list of 84 successful candidates.
