
Ranchi/Jamshedpur, May 21: Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) declared plus two results this afternoon, two days ahead of schedule and indications are that in Ranchi at least girls have outshone boys this time too.
This year, 32,860 students of 250 schools appeared for CBSE plus two examinations from Jharkhand. Of them 28,015 passed, recording a satewide success rate of 85.25 per cent.
CBSE's Ranchi coordinator and principal of Gurunanak Higher Secondary School Manohar Lal agreed with the assessment about girls having done better in the state capital. "This year, girls have performed better than boys and have managed to secure good marks in English and mathematics even though the papers were tough," he said.
In Ranchi, there are 41 CBSE plus two schools from where 9,000 students appeared for the examinations held in March.
In Jamshedpur, boys and girls had fared uniformly. Most schools recorded a pass percentage of around 99 per cent, well above the national figure of 83 per cent.
Jamshedpur's CBSE coordinator and principal of Telco-based Vidya Bharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya Vipin Sharma said 4,000 students had appeared for the Class XII examinations from 12 steel city schools.
In Ranchi, among those who fared exceptionally were Garima Sahu of Delhi Public School (DPS), who got 98 per cent, while Shrishti Sarawagi of the same school secured 96.8 per cent in commerce. Samridhi Singhania of Kairali School secured 96 per cent in commerce.
In arts, Apurva Roy of JVM Shyamali secured 95.2 per cent, while Nishita Dogra of the same school secured 94 per cent in commerce.
Shreya Kumari of Surendranath Centenary School, who took science, secured 95.6 per cent, while Shailja Anand got 93.8 per cent in commerce. Harshita Alok of JVM Shyamali secured 95.6 per cent in science, while Uzma Tabassum got 95.2 per cent in science.
Most students said they weren't satisfied with their mathematics and English marks. "I could not get the expected marks in English. It was my best paper, but I managed only 87 per cent. I don't know what happened," said IAS-aspirant and Samridhi of Kairali School.
But, Garima Sahu of DPS said she was happy with her marks and would be sitting for medical entrance examinations. "I used to study six hours a day and took tuitions," she said.
Principal of Surendranath Centenary School Samita Sinha agreed that the maths paper was tough and lengthy. "In my school, everyone has passed in English but few have got 90 and above," she said.
Kairali School principal Jacob C.J agreed maths was a disappointment. "I am still in shock (at the marks many students have got), as many have qualified for JEE Advance examinations and were to appear for the mains tomorrow," he said.
Sharma, principal of Telco-based Vidya Bharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya, said, "Our overall pass percentage is 99.2. In one of the first such instances in the history of our school, four of our students have achieved 100 per cent marks in different subjects. This is a proud moment for us."
Among the achievers in Jamshedpur were Sushant Pradhan, who scored 100 in computer science, while Krishna Kumar Ashish got 100 in physics. Supriya Prasad got 100 in both chemistry and biology, while G.K. S. Ankita scored 100 in bio-technology.
DAV Public School Bistupur's Animesh Sarkar (bio-sciences) had an overall percentage of 97.2, while Atul Kumar (pure science) of Vidya Bharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya scored 96.8 per cent. Rishika Agarwal (commerce) of DAV Public School Bistupur got 95.4 per cent marks.
