Jamshedpur, Feb. 24: Internationally-acclaimed artists and sculptors are set to give a free rein to their imagination at the Centre for Excellence here from tomorrow.
In a weeklong exhibition on “Art in Industry”, local artists will rub shoulders with their global counterparts and participate in a camp. The exhibition is being organised by Tata Steel under the supervision of the Pondicherry-based Aurodhan Art Gallery.
According to Tata Steel officials, internationally-acclaimed painters Ajit Dubey, Alex Mathews, Alfred Bast (Germany), Amitav Das, Anjani Reddy, Ann Pia (Sweden) and others of their ilk would display their paintings in the exhibition, which would conclude with the exhibition-cum-sale event at the United Club.
Sumathi Muthuraman, wife of Tata Steel managing director B. Muthuraman, would inaugurate the exhibition. The participants would be exhibiting two of their best paintings.
It will also showcase works of artists from across the globe. “More than 25 artists have confirmed their participation,” an official said.
Most have arrived in the city while some are expected before the exhibition begins, he added.
It is for the first time that Tata Steel has planned to invite tribal artists to display their paintings. “The idea is to display their paintings in front of acclaimed artists who are participating in the exhibition. Rubbing shoulders with famed artists would help boost the morale of tribal artists,” company officials said.
Apart from tribal artists from Ranchi and Dhanbad, local artists of Jamshedpur School of Art (JSA) would also be participating in the exhibition.
“Though they would not display their art in the exhibition, watching the famed artists at work would do a world of good for them,” said G.M. Sharan, secretary, JSA.
Besides the painting exhibition, the participants would also be engaged in sculpting images.
The painters and sculptors will also organise camps during the exhibition.
