Ranchi, July 10: The day was hectic for 77-year-old Congress MP from Begusarai Rajo Singh, who was forwarded to judicial custody.

A heart patient, Singh was sent to Rajendra Institute of Medical Science today.

Singh, one of the prime accused in the multi-crore Bihar fodder swindle, appeared before three special CBI courts in three cases related to the scam.

The cases, which included RC 47A/96, RC 38A/96 and RC 20A/96, were pending in three courts.

The first case was pending before the court of CBI special judges Alok Sengupta. The other two were pending before the courts of special CBI judge S.A. Quadar and officiating CBI special judge Satya Prakash.

This was the first day of the 14-day judicial custody of the MP. He had surrendered before special CBI judge P.R. Das yesterday and was sent to Birsa Munda Central jail.

Singh’s advocate Arvind Kumar Mitra said: “Today’s hearing started at 10.45 this morning and continued till late in the afternoon. My client first appeared before Sengupta and then in the courts of Quadar and Prakas.”

“We had arranged for the three hearings on the same day to save Singh from any legal harassment in future. We produced him before all the courts, where cases related to the fodder scam were in progress, and completed the legal formalities which was in the interest of my client,” he added.

“Singh has been remanded in judicial custody in RIMS. From there he will appear before the court of Sengupta on July 21 and in the courts of Quadar and Satya Prakash on July 22. He is suffering from a cardiac problem.”

Sources said a team of advocates has planned to complete all the legal formalities as early as possible to make things easier for Singh.

“Singh’s advocates have decided to file a bail petition before Supreme Court. They will first ensure that Singh is not involved in any other fodder scam cases to plug any CBI attempt to file another chargesheet. Then they will try to move Supreme Court,” the sources said.

“The advocates have planned to ensure the release of their client on bail within six months, like the other accused in the fodder scam, including Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Laloo Prasad Yadav,” the sources added.
