Firing on dead BJP activist's house

Three persons with their faces masked fired at the house of murdered BJP activist Chhotu Pandit at Daiguttu under Mango thana area in the steel city on Thursday night.

Though no one was injured in the firing, police have on Friday arrested one Ved Prakash Singh on the basis of an FIR lodged by Chhotu's wife Rani Pathak.

Ved is one of the accused in the Chhotu Pandit murder case registered with Mango thana in November 2015.

DSP (headquarters-I) K.N. Mishra said three persons had fired five shots targeting Chhotu's home. "We rushed to the spot after getting the information and recovered five empty cartridges. We have also obtained a CCTV footage of the three shooting in the air around 11.45pm," he said.

Mishra said the firing was aimed at intimidating the witnesses in the murder case at a time the trial was in progress at Jamshedpur civil court. Police have assigned a bodyguard to Rani, who lodged an FIR on Friday against Ved Prakash, Mohan and Chandan - all accused in the murder case - for trying to intimidate her and firing at her house.

"We have arrested Ved from his house at Daiguttu on the basis of the FIR and are trying to nab the other two accused soon," Mango thana OC Arun Kumar Mahatha.

According to police, five persons - Tez Pratap Singh, Vikas Tiwary, Chandan Singh, Ved Prakash Singh and Mohan Singh - were arrested for their involvement in Chhotu's murder in 2015. Tez Pratap and Vikas are still in the jail while Chandan, Ved Prakash and Mohan are out on bail.
