Ranchi, Oct. 16: To uncork a real frenzy this Diwali, various city clubs planned bashes for its members.

Lighting of crackers, preparing special sweets and delicacies, making beautiful rangolis were some of the things with which the club managements went about making festival of light memorable.

Ranchi Club and Ranchi Gymkhana Club went ahead with their special plans and lured members with sumptuous food and fireworks display. To add zing to the celebrations, the clubs were decked up the premises with banana leaves, marigold flowers and earthen lamps. The celebrations, which started late in the evening, included some exciting games.

A Ranchi Club member, Jyoti Bajaj, said that the main reason for celebrating Diwali in the club was to create community feeling irrespective of caste, creed and colour. While the entry of members was free, guests had to shell out Rs 200 per head to enjoy the extravaganza.

Meanwhile, the 1,350 members of Ranchi Gymkhana Club celebrated the festival with tambola and fireworks last night. The entire decor of the club was done in yellow and gold. “This Diwali our major attraction was the lucky draw and winners will get a Nano car. The results of the draw have not yet been declared,” said administrator of the club Vishwakarma.

He added that the club made lavish arrangement of mouth-watering food with free flow of liquor. A member of the club, Poonam Anand, said: “Diwali is close to our heart and we wanted to celebrate it in a grand way.”
