Failure spree sours result high CBSE scores fox students

Ranchi, May 23: The results of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class XII examinations has shown once again that science is the favourite subject of the boys while surprisingly, it?s commerce for the girls.

Boys have reigned supreme by topping in the science stream, while girls have outsmarted them in commerce.

As with the ICSE and ISC exams, the results of which were declared last week, students have scored high in mathematics. Keshav Prawasi, a student of DAV, Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, has secured 94.6 per cent, with 100 in both mathematics and biology.

Prawasi, a resident of Barh in Biha, is believed to have got the highest among students in Ranchi, a shade higher than Bibhuti P. Kashyap, the science topper of Delhi Public School (94.2 per cent).

In commerce, Varsha Jalan of DAV, Hehal, has got 94.8 per cent marks with 99 in accounts followed by 95 in economics. Varsha, again believed to be the commerce topper from the capital, was followed by Ankita Sinha and Madhuri Chowdhary of DPS who have both got 93.6 per cent.

DAV Hehal and DPS fought neck and neck for the top slots in the commerce section, while it was fight between DAV, Shyamli and DPS in the science stream.

Of the 554 students who appeared for the science stream at DPS, 498 passed. Of 92 students in the commerce section, 86 cleared the examination. As many as 508 secured first division.

However the school also registered 21 failures. Eleven students scored more than 90 percent.

The number of students who appeared from Surendranath Centenary School is 176 of whom 174 passed the examination (both science and commerce).

The number of students passed with the first division is 136 and 33 students secured second division.

While Nishant Krishna scored the highest in the science section with 90.4 per cent, Pankaj Kumar scored 83.6 per cent in commerce. Another student, Rahul Kundu, managed 99 in physical education.

In the coal belt, Bokaro students left their competitors from Dhanbad far behind to come up with flying colours. Students of Delhi Public School, Bokaro, especially had reasons to cheer.

Shailesh Jha scored 98 per cent followed by Ashish Agrawal with 97 per cent while in commerce, Nidhi Agrawal got 96.60. Kunal Kumar, also from the same institution, and Raj Kamal of Saraswati School Dhanbad got 95.8 per cent each.

In Jamshedpur, the verdict among students and principals is unanimous: Compared to the ISC results, the Class XII CBSE show was clearly disappointing.

Scores were low this year, with performance not matching expectations. In contrast to the highest results for CBSE (science) of 93 per cent, the ISC topper in science this year scored 97.25 per cent.

In commerce, the highest in ISC was 96.25 per cent, compared to 88 per cent in CBSE.

Abhibrata Banerjee of St Mary?s English School got the highest score in the science stream, with 93 per cent. Saumya Sinha of Vidya Bharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya (VBCV) followed with 92 per cent. Banerjee?s results were 1 per cent more than last year?s topper, Rashmit Ritam Das of Jamshedpur Public School (JPS).
