Auto-rickshaw drivers have donned a new look in Bokaro.
Over 5,200 registered drivers of diesel, petrol and CNG-run autos wore either blue or khaki dresses while setting out for work following the new uniform code that came into effect on Tuesday.
Bokaro SP M.Y. Ramesh, along with traffic DSP Prakash Soya, officially unveiled the dress code for operators plying in Bokaro steel city, Chas township, Bermo and other urban centres of the district, during a programme at Naya More.
According to the new code, those driving diesel tempos will have to wear blue trousers and shirts while petrol or CNG auto drivers will wear khaki.
SP Ramesh said the dress code would help passengers, transport officials and policemen identify genuine operators easily.
"All the drivers should observe the dress code. The traffic department will carry out regular checking drives to ensure that the rule is followed in toto. If any auto driver is found flouting the code, he will have to cough up a fine of Rs 500. This apart, the drivers will have to carry all valid documents like driving licence, conductor licence, road permit etc," he said.
All traffic personnel posted across the city have been asked to keep tabs on all autos.
The new SP also stressed on the need to follow road safety rules like fixing iron rod on the right side of the three-wheeler so that no passenger got off the vehicle from right side. Also, pressure horns and loudspeakers inside the vehicles were banned, he added.
Auto drivers, who were present during the event, promised all cooperation for successful implementation of the dress code and safety rules.
