Ranchi, March 20: Some students have to no longer spend time thinking what to wear to college.
Now students of Marwari College who have taken up vocational courses have to follow a dress code from the next academic session.
At present, students in the three-year degree course in BBA are attending classes in dark blue trousers, a blue shirt and tie.
The students have to attend college in the prescribed dress code on all working days.
Now, students of vocational courses like BCA and IT would also have to follow a dress code from July.
One of the BBA students, Naresh Singh, said a dress code makes them feel that they are doing some professional course and not their usual graduation.
“In management institutes students are following dress codes, too, which gives them a feel of professionalism. I’m glad we are following it here,” Singh said.
Singh added that they should also feel comfortable in the prescribed dress code and that saves them from deciding what to wear to college everyday.
Students of biotechnology also go for practical work in a white uniform.
Javed Ahmed, the principal of Marwari College, said there are around 18 vocational courses running in the college and hence a dress code was important to distinguish between students.
“We have also given laminated identity cards to students so that they can be identified through their dress code and I-cards,” the principal added.
The co-ordinator of the vocational course at Marwari College, Shishir Kumar, said the purpose of introducing the dress code was to distinguish among various departments.
“It becomes difficult to differentiate between those who are doing their graduation and those studying vocational subjects,” Kumar said.
Kumar added that guest faculty members, who come from other institutes or organisations, are impressed to see a dress code among students.
“It is also one of the best ways to maintain discipline on campus,” the principal of Marwari College added.
