Bokaro, Sept. 25: DPS, Bokaro, has added another feather in its cap.
Twenty-one students of the elite school have bagged the national talent scholarship sponsored by the National Council of Education and Research Training (NCERT) and will receive a monthly financial assistance, besides an annual book grant.
The national talent scholarship examination (NTSE) is conducted by the NCERT on an all-India basis. Students are required to clear a mental aptitude test, which is followed by a written aptitude test and an interview.
Qualifying candidates are awarded the scholarship. They receive financial assistance up to the PhD level in social sciences, basic sciences and commerce.
Candidates pursuing professional courses such as engineering, medicine, management and law receive financial assistance up to master degree.
The NCERT had allotted 55 scholarships for the state of which DPS, Bokaro, clinched a little less than half. Buoyed by the result, principal of the school Hemlata S. Mohan said her students had done Bokaro proud. “They have proved once again that DPS is the best. We teachers are proud to have such talented students,” she said
Aparajita Roy, one of the students who cracked the NTSE-2008, gave the entire credit to her teachers. “I owe it to them. Their able guidance has helped me achieve my goal,” she said. Like her, Aditi, Nikhil and Suman were all praises for DPS teachers.
Mohan said, earlier this year, the students of the school had proved their mettle in the Class X and XII board examinations.
“About 100 students made it to IITs this time. Last year, 60 per cent of our students scored above 90 per cent marks in the Class X board exam, and, in 2006, we had the CBSE Class XII topper.”
