A Class X student of Delhi Public School (DPS), Dhanbad, was seriously injured in a fight with two seniors after a joke took a serious turn on the campus on Monday.

The boy, who received head injuries, had to be admitted to a private hospital where he received four stitches. He was later released.

According to school authorities, the fight took place during lunch break when the Class X student tried to joke over some issue with a Class XII student. But the senior student took offence and the duo got engaged in an altercation.

Another Class XII student joined in and accused his junior of crossing all limits. The argument snowballed into a fight. As the seniors rained blows on their junior, the kadas (a kind of bangle worn by men) they wore caused gashes on the latter's head.

"I only tried to joke with him, but it didn't go down well with him and he attacked me with his friend," the injured student said.

Principal K.B. Bhargava said: "We had summoned the parents of all three students, but I could not meet them as I had to leave for a meeting and by that time, only parents of the Class X boy had turned up. I will hold a meeting with them tomorrow (Tuesday)."
