Dhanbad registers 183 new Covid cases, district administration springs into action

Around 15302 persons vaccinated during jab drives organised across the district

With around 183 new cases of Covid-19 infections being detected, the total number of active cases in Dhanbad stands at 716. The silver lining being the number of discharged persons from different hospitals was higher (208) than the number of new cases detected.

The surge has made district administration step up measures to prevent the further spread of infection. The officials have resorted to intensifying drives to check people breaking Covid protocols.

The administration and police have teamed up to intensify patrolling in markets and public places. Care is being taken to ensure that the public adheres to Covid appropriate behaviour.

Altogether six people were nabbed for moving around without a mask.

Notably, out of the 183 cases reported, around 15 were detected in Jharia circle while 13 others in remote Nirsa Block of Dhanbad.

Meanwhile the administration has accelerated the vaccination drive across the district. Around 15302 persons were vaccinated across the district, of which 3133 persons were 45 years of age, 8081 persons belonged to the age bracket of 18 - 44 years; 3499 were teenagers, while 589 were frontline workers and senior citizens.

Notably, the district at present is lagging behind the state government target of administering at least one dose of vaccine to every resident before January 15.

Meanwhile Covid screening is being done at different parts of the district including at Railway Station, Central Hospital, Sahid Nirmal Mahto Memorial Medical College and Hospital, Tata Central Hospital, NH-2 check posts and Chirkunda and Maithon. Around 4875 persons were screened during the drive.
