Ranchi: Over 600 students from BIT Deoghar, Patna and Allahabad off-campus centres of BIT-Mesra will receive their degrees at a graduation ceremony to be hosted on the Deoghar campus on April 8.

Earlier, the students from these centres, which offer Ph.D, M.Tech, M.E, MBA, IMBA, MCA, IMCA, B.E, B.Arch, BCA and BBA programmes, would receive their degrees during convocation at the mother institute at Mesra in Ranchi. But since 2016, the Deoghar campus, established in 2007 under public-private partnership according to an MoU signed between the Jharkhand government and the BIT-Mesra management, has been holding a separate ceremony for these satellite campuses.

Speaking to this correspondent over phone on Tuesday, BIT Deoghar programme coordinator Ashok Kumar Singh said preparations for the event is on at full swing. "The exact number of degree recipients and the protocol to be followed during the ceremony will be published shortly. But, roughly speaking, around 600 students will be awarded their degrees," Singh said adding that the event will be held under the patronage of BIT Mesra vice chancellor Manoj Kumar and will be attended by the directors of all the three off-campus centres besides other guests.

The campus, housed on a 25-acre plot provided by the state government near Jasidih, has come as a boon for aspiring local techies.

"Leading organisations like PricewaterhouseCoopers, Cognizant, Infosys, TCS, Wipro, IBM, Tata Motors, L&T, among others, regularly visit us to recruit students through campus placement drives. Over 75 percent students secure jobs with annual pay packages ranging between Rs 5 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. Our own training and placement cell constantly coordinates (with industries) for training and grooming students," Singh said.

The cradle admits 270 students anually from the AIEE merrit list, half of whom must be from the state.

The total annual intake of students on the campus is 270. Admissions are conducted on the basis of the AIEEE merit list. However, 50 per cent of the seats, are reserved for students of Jharkhand.
