Jamshedpur, Dec. 13: India?s first low-cost carrier Air Deccan?s decision to launch air services in Jamshedpur has been postponed.
Economy airline Air Deccan Aviation Ltd was quick enough to connect Ranchi to Calcutta and Raipur with their services as the capital has well-equipped airport to meet the needs of the airlines.
However, the airline?s decision to launch air services in Jamshedpur has been further delayed since many formalities are yet to be completed.
Chief revenue officer, Air Deccan Aviation, John Kuruvilla told The Telegraph that the airline?s decision to start regular operations to Jamshedpur from Calcutta will take some more time as clearances for flight services to and from the steel city has not been obtained as yet.
?Flights to Jamshedpur is a distant dream as the airline is still taking suggestions and advices from various sections of the society on the issue,? Kuruvilla said.
Air Deccan?s services from Ranchi to Calcutta and Raipur, which commenced last month, has lots of takers, thereby prompting the airline to deliberate on starting flight services from Calcutta to the steel city, which has a daily influx of visitors from various states and countries, mostly on business purposes.
At present, visitors to the steel city have two options ? either take a train from Calcutta and reach Jamshedpur in four hours or take a flight to Ranchi and then drive a three-hour journey from there to the steel city.
Airline sources said issues like feasibility studies, opening up of an air field, for which government clearance is required, are very important as the existing airstrip at Sonari is not well-equipped to handle the aircrafts operated by Air Deccan.
