Meet the new-age musicmakers who march to the beat of a different drummer.
Fans of 19-year-old Dutch DJ sensation Martin Garrix of Animals fame, the international chartbuster, Prem Pratik (22) and Anurag Pandey (22), now studying in Mumbai, are doing pretty well for themselves in the EDM scene.
EDM or electronic dance music is a craze on dance floors, clubs, raves and niche festivals.
And, Prem and Anurag, friends in plus two - DAV Public School, Bistupur - and now at School of Broadcasting and Communication, Mumbai, have made it their career.
Teaming up with Mumbai boy Kashish Parashar (23), they launched their banner Audio Addict, which creates dance music on software.
On Thursday, Audio Addict released their latest EDM track Bombay Sound at Ramada, a hotel in Bistupur. Simultaneously, they also launched it on Google Play and YouTube.
Bombay Sound audio links can also be found at other music e-stores Beatport, iTunes, Amazon and Planet M stores. Audio Addict has also tied up with the music label Ultragore.
Prem and Anurag, who did their Xth from Loyola and KPS-Kadma before meeting at DAV during their Plus Two, never learnt music formally, but tinkered with sounds on their computers, which got people dancing.
"We never learnt music but were always interested in every kind of music. Later, we started finding our own musical feet. Trance drew us. We listen to Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Hardwell and Martin Garrix, we love what happens in Sunburn Festival," said Prem.
Audio Addict will play its music - along with some Bollywood numbers - at Ramada on Saturday in an event billed as the Sundown Party.
Announcing the Sundown Party, Ramada general manager Manesh Dutt called it an innovative attempt to introduce the city's youth "to a supreme form of entertainment".
He added: "While ladies get free entry, stags will have to pay Rs 999."
Prem knows trance is not everyone's sound. "But, many people in the metros now love it. This kind of music might take some time to get accepted in smaller cities of India. Let's see how our hometown reacts to our music on Saturday," Prem said.
The team's debut album Brickwall, with six tracks, was released this January. "It's been well received in the metros," Prem said.
They brainstorm music at a studio in Mumbai. "All three of us bring different things to the table but we work well as a team," Anurag said.
Prem and Anurag, along with Kashish, have also opened an event management firm Chatterbox Creative in Mumbai.
"We are serious about that, too. Be it music or events, we want to reach out and entertain people," Prem said.
