Jamshedpur, Sept. 15: Keeping in mind the need for overall development of a student, Tagore Academy is organising a cultural week to give students a break from their hectic academic schedule.

The cultural week — scheduled for three days this week — would let students from class V to class XII, indulge in various activities of their interest including debates, singing and dancing competitions.

“This is the fifth year that we are organising the cultural week. Focussing solely on academics hampers a student’s overall growth. Hence we organise the cultural week for students can get away from their books and have fun,” said Ashis Choudhury, secretary of the Tagore Society.

Divided into three categories — class V-class VII, Class VIII- Class X, Class XI and XII — the first day saw students of Class V-Class VII participating in English and Hindi elocution, quiz, group and solo dance competitions. Classical music, bhajans and Rabindra Sangeet programmes were also held.

“Despite not being trained the students are eager to participate,” said Choudhury adding that the shows put up also helped authorities identify talent which can be later presented at inter-school competitions.

“The best part of the cultural week is that we are not required to attend classes on these three days. We wait for this function eagerly every year. Though most of them are not trained, some of the students have got real artistic talents,” said a visibly elated student of the academy, Shubham Amritesh.

The programmes lined up for tomorrow are English debate, rock band competition, Hindi debate, fusion rap, guitar, and Hindi film song competitions apart from a fashion show by the senior students.
