Jamshedpur, July 6: Police have sought the assistance of the state intelligence to garner information about 'Bajrangi' — the dreaded Uttar Pradesh-based criminal gang — with whom gangster Akhilesh Singh is believed to have links.
Senior police officials said the district police have sent a request to the state intelligence department in this connection.
“So far we know that Bajrangi is headed by one Munna Bajrangi, who is based in Varanasi. We have requested the state intelligence to collect information about the other members of the gang, their area of operations in that state and more importantly how Akhilesh is associated with that gang,” a senior police official said.
He hinted that the details would be known in the next few days.
The police got a clue of Akhilesh's association with Bajrangi when four of his associates were killed in an encounter at Do Mohani (rivers meet) in Sonari area on the night of July 1. The police had recovered documents from Babloo Prasad, one of the slain criminals, that revealed that he had connections with the Bajrangi gang.
”We have strong suspicion that this gang is providing shelter to Akhilesh. It is important for us to know the details of that gang so that we can plan things to nab Akhilesh,” police officials said.
Additional superintendent of police Saket Kumar Singh said the police have sent five SIM cards for their print-out. “These five SIM cards belonged to the four who were were killed at Sonari. We want to the know the details of the calls they made or received through the cell phones,” Singh said.
Earlier, the police had sent a SIM card recovered from Babloo for its print-out. The additional superintendent of police said soon after getting the printout they verified the numbers and found that the phone calls received on Babloo's cell phone were from different telephone booths in Baridih and Sonari areas.
“From the print-outs we have found that Babloo had a girlfriend with whom he was in regular touch. We also found out that Babloo was also in touch with his cousin, Mahesh Kumar, who stays at Sakchi. We have interrogated the girl and Mahesh about their links with Babloo,” Singh stated.
Police confirmed that on the day of the encounter at Sonari, Babloo's
cell phone had rung twice. “We have cross-checked the number from the
print-out and it was that of Akhilesh's,” police sources informed.
It is also learnt that the police were trying to identity the local connections of Akhilesh who are constantly providing information to him about the business community of the city. “Akhilesh is not in the city. But there is a constant flow of information about the traders through his local contacts. We know some of his local contacts. But we want to nab them with concrete proof,” a police official said
