Jamshedpur, May 28: After working on logistics on computers at the police superintendent’s office here, Ajit Kumar Singh aspires to make a career in tennis.

And a coaching degree from the US was what he was yearning for years now.

The 32-year-old, a computer analyst with the district police department, recently attained success in the coaches’ examination conducted by United State Professional Tennis Registry. He is the first from Jharkhand and Bihar to clear the exam.

Singh, a former tennis player who represented Jharkhand in two national championships, said the certification and workshop was held in Bangalore.

“The course was conducted by Lui Cap. About 20 candidates from different states had answered the theory and practical papers during the four-day exam. Eight among them cleared the exam,” he said.

The coaching stint at Bangalore was tough but also interesting, he said. “Yes, things were tough but I enjoyed my stay there, interacting with aspiring coaches and officials of the Kenisis Tennis Academy,” Singh said, adding that his confidence enabled him to fare well in the examination.

Singh, who has been active in the city’s sports circuit, including cricket, said: “Tennis is my first love and I would like to lend a helping hand to aspiring tennis players.”
