Jamshedpur: Tata Steel's utility wing Jusco has installed two state-of-the-art digital display boards to provide real-time information on weather, commuting time, special events and important days.
While one board has been put up near Bistupur thana, the other one is located close to P&M Hi-Tech City Centre Mall on Bistupur-Adityapur Road.
The boards were put up on Friday and started working on Saturday.
"The smart LED boards will provide real-time information on temperature and humidity levels, important engagements such as matches and rallies, dates and time needed to reach Tatanagar station and Ranchi airport based on the traffic scenario. The data will be monitored from a central server at Jusco corporate office in Northern Town," Jusco spokesperson Rajesh Rajan told this paper.
He said the boards have been installed on a pilot basis.
"Based on the response, we would put up similar boards in other locations, especially in commercial hubs. The purpose is not only to provide real time data on public utilities, but also to generate awareness on social issues and road safety. We also plan to display real time information on traffic," said Rajan.
"The boards are weather proof and can withstand rain and high temperature. The high resolution LEDs, which are clearly visible during the day, have been put up at a height of more than 10 metres for better visibility," a source said.
Though officials refused to comment on the cost incurred, sources in the town engineering unit of Jusco said that each board costs Rs 8 lakh.
"So far, we had to depend on smartphone apps for weather details. These display boards will give us live information on temperature and humidity," said Bistupur-based trader and former president of Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry Suresh Sonthalia.
Similar display boards are already in use in Delhi. In Ranchi, there is only a real time ambient air quality monitoring display board at Doranda on air pollution levels.
