Jamshedpur, June 8: After the intermediate results, its mission admission for students eyeing seats at the best colleges across city. But securing a seat at a college of one’s choice could prove to be an uphill task this year, as most cradles have decided to increase their cut-off marks.
Jamshedpur colleges, some of which have started issuing admission forms, have seen a good response till now, with students queuing up daily to buy forms in arts, commerce and science.
The cut-off for entry into any honours course at Jamshedpur Co-operative College, LBSM College and ABM College has been set at 45 per cent. Jamshedpur Women’s College, on the other hand, has laid down different eligibility criteria for different streams.
While the cut-off for science and commerce is 60 per cent, a student needs to have a minimum of 45 per cent for pursuing honours in Bengali, Odiya or other regional languages. Honours in English, psychology and political science will require 60 per cent marks while the cut-off for Hindi is 50 per cent.
“We are trying to better the standard of education. That is why our cut-off is a bit higher than others,” said Sumita Mukherjee, professor-in-charge of Jamshedpur Women’s College, which is witnessing the maximum rush.
Graduate School College for Women, the other cradle for girls, has set 60 per cent as cut-off for science and arts subjects. Their criterion for commerce is 70 per cent. Forms will be available from June 10.
Students need to have 45 per cent to apply for honours in other cradles like Jamshedpur Co-operative College, LBSM College and ABM College. Those with 50 per cent can hope to get direct admission in science, arts and commerce at Karim City College, an affiliate of Kolhan University.
Others will have to appear for a written test. For vocational courses like mass communication and IT, 45 per cent is required. But the candidates have to clear a written test.
Karim City College comes a close second in terms of admission forms sold till now.
