nI would like to know why Tata Steel started a new company, Jamshedpur Utility and Services Company (Jusco)?
Sanjeev Pandey
Sakchi
In this age of stiff competition, it is absolutely necessary for Tata Steel to focus on its core business — making and marketing steel.
If the steel major has to divert its attention to other unrelated sectors, it will hamper production which will be detrimental for our growth.
Keeping these factors in mind, we decided to float Jusco which will look after the non-core sectors of Tata Steel. Once the new company starts operating, Tata Steel would be able concentrate on it’s core business.
nWhat are the services that Jusco is planning to offer to the city?
Saikat Raha
Sonari
To begin with Jusco would gradually take over the services that are non-core to the business of Tata Steel. We will provide municipal services in the steel city. And mind you the services would be nothing like what the steel city has ever witnessed.
Like Tata Steel, we at Jusco would not compromise on the quality. I can assure that the residents of Jamshedpur will have no room for complains.
nWhen would Jusco start functioning and how will it operate?
B.N. Gupta
Dhatkidih
We aim at making Jusco a robust and viable business organisation. We are in the initial stages of planning so it will obviously taking some time.
Once the details are finalised we would kick-off operations. But I am hopeful that the company should start functioning within a couple of months. Once we start our operations there will be no looking back. We are also consulting our recognised union, Tata Workers Union, while drawing the blueprint of the company.
nThere are apprehensions that Jusco would be unable to render the quality of services that Tata Steel used to provide?
Ravikant Pathak
Agrico
I do not know whether the people are aware that Jusco is a subsidiary of Tata Steel. Jusco will follow the same business ethics as the steel major. We believe that the customer is the king.
Jusco would not only continue to provide quality services but also improve upon them. The residents of Jamshepdur need not worry. We will improve the civic condition of the city.
nWould Jusco be making any investment in the initial stage?
Vivek Singh
Baradwari
We will make investments in the later stage. As for now, I don’t think there is any need for investments.
We would make the best use of the infrastructure and other assets that Tata Steel provides us.
Anyway, the infrastructure that we get from the steel major is of superior quality. We would certainly think of investments once the company starts making profits at a later stage.
nDoes Jusco plan to provide municipal services in those parts of the city which does not come under the jurisdiction of Tata Steel?
Rohini Sinha,
Jugsalai
We plan to spread our wings not only in those parts of the city which do not fall under Tata Steel’s jurisdiction, but also outside the city.
We would provide municipal services in areas like Mango, Jugsalai and Adityapur. Our sole aim is people’s satisfaction. We might even approach the state government to avail of Jusco’s services. We will also try to provide municipal services to other companies that are based in the city.
nThere are a large number of unemployed youths in the city. Will Jusco provide them with jobs? Ratan Chakraborty, Baridih
We are still in the process of giving a final shape to the new company. We are still to decide on staff strength. Unless these issues are dealt with, it would be difficult for me to say anything on matters of employment.
