Kharkai victim

• Police on Sunday recovered the body of a 13-year-old boy from Domuhani (river meet) in Sonari, Jamshedpur. Victim Rahul Mukhi went under water at Kharkai in Jugsalai, the other end of the town, while bathing on Saturday. His father L. Mukhi, 40, had drowned trying to save his son.

Kidnap FIR

• One Binod Pramanik, 22, of Parsudih on Jamshedpur outskirts, on Sunday allegedly abducted a 17-year-old girl of the same locality to marry her. The underage girl's father lodged an adduction FIR.

Boy thief

• A 10-year-old boy was caught stealing a mobile phone from a house in New Baradwari under Sakchi thana area of Jamshedpur on Sunday morning. The owner handed over the minor to police, but did not lodge a written complaint.

Jail raid

• A joint team of police and administration led by rural SP Prabhat Kumar conducted a surprise raid of Ghaghidih Central Jail on Sunday to find a SIM card and a headphone.

Cop row

• Residents of Sonari, Jamshedpur, on Sunday protested before the thana against two Mobile Tiger biker cops who had allegedly misbehaved with one Rajkumar on Saturday night. On Saturday night, Rajkumar told the cops he was standing outside his house, but the men in uniform hauled him to the thana.

Zookeeper

• Zookeeper for a Day, a programme wherein animal lovers take care of an enclosure, will resume at Jamshedpur's Tata zoo by October-end. An interested person will pay Rs 1,500 to register, Tata zoo education officer Seema Rani said. The zoo also ended its National Wildlife Week on Sunday with a sit-and-draw for 415 students from 30 schools.

Cricket

• Jharkhand scored 313 runs on 4 wickets, thanks to Utkarsh Singh and Kumar Suraj who scored 121 and 100, to script a solid start against Uttar Pradesh on Day One of CK Nayudu Trophy at BSL Cricket Stadium, Bokaro, on Sunday.

Wrestling

• Ranchi emerged champion at the Jharkhand State Inter-District Wrestling Championship at Circus Maidan in Bokaro on Sunday, followed by the host district and Gumla.

Loot cuffs

• Three men were caught red-handed late on Saturday night while trying to loot trucks at Basukocha village under Tamar thana area, 55km from capital Ranchi, on Sunday. Equipment used to flatten tyres and Rs 9,000 in cash were found on the trio.

Clean-up drive

• The Hazaribagh Municipal Corporation plans to clean up several water bodies, including the four lakes, Gayatri Mandir Talab, Kali Bari Meetha Talab, Budhwa Mahadev Talab and Ooni Talab, from Monday and complete the job by October 15, well in time for Chhath.

TED talk

• A Technology, Entertainment, Design (TED) conference was held at IIT(ISM) Dhanbad on Sunday and participated by seven speakers, including geoscientist Rabi Narayan Bastia, Spanish sitar player Sachin Patwardhan, actress Tannishtha Chatterjee and Gangs of Wasseypur writer Zeishan Quadri.

• Dhanbad Press Club polls will be held on November 12. Incumbent president Sanjeev Jha said nominations could be filed on November 4 and 5 while scrutiny would take place on November 6.

Legal camp

• Bokaro District Legal Services Authority on Sunday organised an awareness camp at Kasturba Gandhi Awasiya Balika Vidyalaya, Chas. Students were apprised of the Right to Education, Right to Information, domestic violence, child marriage and dowry prevention acts.

Eye care

• Over 200 doctors from Jharkhand, Bihar, Bengal, Assam and Odisha took part in the two-day Eastern India Zonal Ophthalmological Congress at IIT(ISM) in Dhanbad on Sunday. A host of issues such as congenital blindness, traumatic cataract management and drooping eyelids were discussed.
