Ranchi, Feb. 20: Police are yet to identify the three men who shot dead land broker Chhotu Sahu (27) in front of his house in Chutia, Ranchi, even after 24 hours of the crime, neither are they clear on the murder motive.

Chhotu's brothers Mitthu, Latan and Bhola were interrogated at Chutia police station today but they failed to provide any clue about his possible enemies or the motive.

They were also shown the footage of the surveillance camera, which the police had acquired from Chhotu's next door neighbour yesterday, but they couldn't identify the assailants.

Ranchi SP Kishore Kaushal said the footage showed the men, in the age group of 25-30, fleeing on a bike after pumping a bullet in the head of the deceased. "However, in the low resolution feed, the face of only the one sitting in the middle was seen. While the rider wore a helmet, the one at the back looked behind. We are taking help of experts and artists to get the facial details of the man in the middle," the SP said.

Chhotu, who was an active ward committee member of the Congress, had no criminal record but was a bully. A local resident said a few weeks back Chhotu had a fight with some youths of Bariatu.

A police officer, involved with the investigation, said the motive was still unclear. "It may be possible family members are aware of his activities and associates. His friends may be able to tell more about him. Some of them will be summoned," said the officer.

Police are investigating a few angles - personal enmity, land and monetary disputes or a probable love angle.

Besides, police today seized Chhotu's mobile phone to trace his call details and locations.

They, however, rued the victim's family and protesters were not cooperating.

The officer added they remained busy on Friday controlling the protesters after the murder. "Today, they were again trying to create a similar situation," said the officer.

Chutia residents and shopkeepers observed a peaceful bandh today.
