Chhau festival concludes

Jamshedpur, April 13: The Chhau troupe from Bangasahi village in Seraikela was adjudged the winner of Seraikela Chhau Mahotsav that concluded today.

The team from Noagaon also in Seraikela was declared the first runner-up and Maa Tara Club from Mayurbhanj in Orissa won the third prize.

State secretary for art, culture, sports and youth affairs N.N. Sinha handed over the prizes.

The winning team was given a cash prize of Rs 12,000 along with the cost of preparing the costume and Rs 500 as travelling allowance.

The first runner-up was given Rs 10,000 while the second runner-up was given Rs 7,500 cash. The first and second runners-up were also given the cost of making costume and travelling allowance.

The three-day tribal dance festival is jointly organised by the Seraikela-Kharsawan district administration and Government Chhau Centre every year to promote the traditional dance.

According to director of Government Chhau Centre Tapan Patnayak, three other teams who reached the finals were given a cash of Rs 2,500 each besides the cost of costume and travelling allowance.
