Jamshedpur, June 10: Boating facilities at the Chandil dam, which was suspended in March, will soon be revived.
The Seraikela-Kharsawan district administration has decided to constitute a committee to handle boating facilities.
The boating facility was abandoned in the area by the district administration after reports about a probable tussle between the activists of JMM and BJP over getting the bids for running boating business in the Chandil dam area.
?Earlier, we have decided to invite bids to run the boating business in Chandil dam area. But there was every chance of deteriorating law and order situation as both JMM and BJP activists were trying to get the bid. That is why we have decided to cancel the bidding for the boating business and form a committee to look after the affairs,? said Seraikela-Kharsawan deputy commissioner Nagendra Prasad Singh.
The boating facilities in Chandil dam was earlier managed illegally by the henchmen of former BJP legislator from Icchagarh, Arvind Kumar Singh. Singh?s defeat by JMM candidate Sudhir Kumar Mahto during 2005 Assembly polls has prompted the JMM activists to demand the district administration to start a bidding process for running the boating business.
But the bidding process was cancelled twice by the district administration after reports that a probable tussle could take place between the supporters of BJP and JMM at the bidding site.
The activists of JMM and BJP were up in arms against each other for getting the bid for the boating.
According to the proposal made by the district administration, the committee would be chaired by the Chandil sub-divisional officer Saroj Shrivastav. Members of the committee would include the local block development officer, circle officer and officer-in-charge of Chandil police station.
The deputy commissioner and superintendent of police would be the patron of the committee. According to the district administration sources altogether 16 motor-boats, paddle boats, shikara and water scooters were purchased through the MLA local area development fund during the time of former Iccagarh legislator Arvind Kumar Singh.
The boating in the area was suspended in March this year, following some JMM supporters ransacked the Chandil dam area destroying some of the water boats. Chandil sub-divisional officer Saroj Shrivastav said the boatmen who had been appointed privately by Arvind Kumar Singh would be engaged.
?But the affairs would be handled by the committee at no profit, no loss basis,? she added.
According to sources there is an yearly income of Rs 2 to 3 lakh in boating business at the Chandil dam.
