Jamshedpur/Ranchi, June 28: The exploits of revolutionaries Sidhu and Kanhu will make an appearance on the celluloid, thanks to a professor from Sussex University (Great Britain) who would be coming up with a documentary on the famed tribal siblings.

The one-hour documentary will be based on Sidhu-Kanhu?s revolt against the British, landlords, mahajans (money lenders) as well as railway officials, members of Sidhu-Kanu Hul Baisi Samity (SKHBS) informed.

The documentary, produced by Danial J. Raecraft, a professor at Sussex University, will conclude with the hanging of the revolutionary duo in Bhagalpur jail. A lot of research was done by the producer with the help of tribal scholars in Britan.

Digambar Hansda, a senior member of the SKHBS, said the documentary will help in highlighting the sacrifices made by the Santhal brothers.

He added that Raecraft would also visit Bhognadih in Sahebgunj district, the birth place of Sidhu-Kanhu, to collect more inputs about their life and revolt.

The documentary will also feature the contribution made by the revolutionary duo?s other brothers ? Chand and Bhairav as well as other Santhals who took part in the rebellion. Raecraft?s itinerary includes a visit to some of the villages frequented by the duo.

?It?s a tough job to collect relevant information about the life and activities of the brothers. We would provide the necessary details when he makes a trip here,? said a member of the SKHBS.

The 1855 march of the Santhals from Dumka to Calcutta to lodge a protest before the then governor general would also be a part of the documentary.

?Atrocities on women committed by railway officials during land acquisition and the oppression by the landlords and moneylenders against the poor tribals will be a vital part of the script ,? the member said.

Governor Syed Sibtey Razi and chief minister Arjun Munda will attend the main function to mark the event at Bhognadih ( Sahebganj) on Thursday.

The chief minister will lay the foundation stone of a memorial being built by the tourism department at a cost of Rs 40 lakhs. He will also inaugurate an ?Ekal Vidyalaya? built at a cost of Rs 4 crore and a ?Vikas Mela? where assets will be distributed to the people.

Sunil Hansda, Convenor of Gota Bharat Sidho Kanho Hul Baisi, an NGO which is in the forefront of organising the event, expects a gathering of 10,000 people on Thursday, some of them from England, Nepal and Bangladesh.
