
A renowned neurosurgeon of Bokaro and his family, comprising his radiologist wife, son (11) and daughter (6), were injured in a car accident last night near Vaibhav Hotel on NH-32, around 2km from Bokaro district headquarters.
All the four were rushed to Bokaro General Hospital after their car hit a lorry, which applied brake all of a sudden.
Dr Anand Kumar, head of the department of neurosurgery at Bokaro General Hospital, was driving the car.
Dr Kumar's son Aryan, a Class V student of Delhi Public School, received severe head injuries and was being kept on life support in a critical care unit.
From there, he was flown to Apollo Gleneagles Hospital, Calcutta, in an air ambulance at around 4pm.
Dr Kumar, who received head and leg injuries, is out of danger. His wife Abhilasha, who injured her ribs, and daughter Anvi are stable, too.
The incident took place at around 12.35am on Thursday the family of four was returning home after dinner at Zaika restaurant in Chas with some of his colleagues.
"The lorry driver, who applied the brake suddenly, fled from the scene soon after the accident," said Dr P.K. Pandey, Dr Kumar's colleague in the paediatrics department.
Dr Pandey is also the president of Bokaro Steel Officers Association.
Dr Parera, who was accompanying Kumar in a separate car, rushed Aryan to the hospital .
Dr Kumar's wife and daughter were admitted to the hospital by the police, who arrived at the site later.
