Jamshedpur, Aug. 29: The junior boys’ singles final of the 41st Mohan Memorial badminton tournament tomorrow would be an all-Ranchi affair.

The state capital lad Rahul Kumar, the last year’s runner-up, defeated Chandan Nayak in one of the semi-finals in straight sets 21-17, 21-7.

Safi Akram of Ranchi also made it to the summit clash in the junior boys’ singles category defeating Lohardaga’s Abhishek Bhagat 21-13, 21-10 in the other last-four tie at Mohan Ahuja Stadium today.

The junior girls singles final would also be an all-Ranchi affair with Sana Salika taking on Insha Imam. The former defeated Kajal Kumari 21-17, 21-11 while the latter made short work of the steel city’s A. Jyotika 21-13, 21-16.

Jyotika, however, made amends to her loss in the junior girls’ singles by romping into the summit clash of the sub-junior singles’ section. She beat Sana in the semis 17-21, 21-18, 21-9. She would battle with Insha in the final, who made it to the summit clash after her opponent, Debashruti Biswas of Jamshedpur, conceded the match after the first set. Insha had won the first set 21-13. In the sub-junior boys’ singles semi-final matches, Safi defeated Bokaro’s Vineet Kumar 21-9, 21-10, while the city’s Jairaj Singh outclassed Pradeep Kumar of Gumla 21-11, 21-17.

Jyotika and Sana also made it to the final of the sub-junior girls’ doubles defeating Nandini Kumari and Kajal 21-12, 21-0. The duo would play Prakriti Jaggi and Insha, who beat Naureen Hera and Debashruti 21-9, 21-10 in the final.
