Ranchi, June 11: If you thought water parks are tourist hot spots you see only in glossy travel magazines, this news might interest you.

The district administration has set the ball rolling for a water park on the outskirts of the capital.

The administration has requested the land reforms and revenue department to provide 18.8 acres of land at Madanpur in Kanke for the amusement park.

“We have sent a proposal along with a blueprint of the amusement park to the government. If the plan is approved, residents of the capital will be able to enjoy a splash at amusement park. They will not have to go to Calcutta or other metropolitan cities to get a feel of water parks,” sources said.

“The work will be carried out by a private company, Ranchi Water Amusement Park Private Limited, at Chutupalu Valley in Ormanjhi. The park will be designed by the Ocean Environment (India) Private Limited,” the sources added.

Sources said Chutupaly Valley is located near a number of prominent tourist spots. “We hope tourists will flock to the water park to beat the heat in the natural surroundings of the valley. The water park will be a family amusement centre where people of different age groups can have fun. We will set up food stalls which will dish out goodies. For movie buffs there will be a cinema hall. This apart, we will also organise entertainment programmes,” a district official said.

“We will also arrange for different types of games, including zodiac laser games, car racing and air hockey. Plans for a basket ball court, bobo bop, kaleidoscope, shoots and hoops, video games and joy rides are also on anvil. We expect about 4,000 people every day. The estimated cost of the project is pegged at Rs 2 crore. The government will provide infrastructure support to the project,” he said.
