Ranchi: Sarabpreet Singh, the young city entrepreneur who is out on bail after being arrested for uploading a meme featuring the chief minister and a mouth freshener ad, has vowed to join campaigns to promote freedom of expression as a right of every individual.

Sarabpreet, who was slapped with impersonation, cheating and forgery charges and arrested on April 4, got bail after spending six days in jail. In a post on Facebook on Wednesday, the first since his release on April 10, he said he was planning to document the stages of his legal fight and sought the support of his well-wishers. Excerpts from his post:

Dear Friends, your messages at #FreeSarabpreet gave me a lot of courage... I couldn't believe it happened due to a meme published on April Fool's Day. Even rape and murder cases have fewer charges than what I have right now...

...It is my fundamental right to express my views... With Made In Ranchi we were helping start-ups in the region by publishing their stories, podcasts from amazing personalities across Jharkhand...

...Now that I have to spend a lot of time with lawyers, I will be exploring (similar) cases and will try to put in a form of a documentary where I will need more of your help and support. Will be supporting few campaigns... #FreeDemocracy #MentosNotSoCool.
