Jamshedpur, Nov. 15: Come next week and several city colleges would begin with their annual placement for the current academic year. And to get the students placed in some of the well-known companies, the colleges are training their students.
The campus placement process will start around November 20 and would come to an end in January. Most city colleges have decided to wrap up the process before February when the Ranchi University examination begins.
More than the timely completion of the process, the city colleges are trying to woo some new companies to come and recruit their students.
“Last year, we had more of BPOs and Call Centres coming to recruit students. But this time we have also shifted our focus to companies in the Bio-Tech and Pharmaceutical sector,” added Mohanty.
Though talks are on with several leading pharmaceutical giants, but the college authorities are tight lipped over the issue.
“We have contacted several companies in the two sectors and banking sector is one among the two, but we will not be in a position to reveal the names unless everything is finalised. But we are hopeful that the turnout will be good,” said Mohanty.
So far the Jamshedpur Womens College has received confirmation from two companies. While Wipro would visit the campus on November 30, IBM will conduct the placements on December 10.
Several bio technology and pharmaceutical companies are waiting to come to Jamshedpur Women College.
Jamshedpur Workers College received a confirmation from Usha Martin Industries that they too would visiting the college campus.
Wipro would conduct an interview here on November 25.
Karim City College has however decided to train its students before sending them for the campus interviews. “Our previous experiences has shown that some training is a must for students to face any kind of job interview. Therefore we first want to train the students and then only allow them to take the test,” said Zaki Akhtar, a senior faculty at the college.
Some of the new companies who will be recruiting students are financial companies and companies from the industrial sector.
