Jamshedpur, Nov. 21: After Adityapur Industrial Area Development Authority (Aiada) cancelled its grant of 100 acres of land to Tisco Growth Shop (TSG) on Thursday, a delegation of the Adityapur Municipal Council (AMC) today visited the company’s premises to take stock of the situation.
After the visit, the councillors said that Aiada’s decision was too hasty and that they would ask the state government to reject it. They said that TGS had started the expansion process according to its plan.
The delegation is scheduled to meet deputy chief minister Sudhir Mahto on Saturday and fill him in on the details of the visit.
AMC vice-president Purendra Narayan Singh, who led the delegation, blamed Aiada for hurriedly cancelling the land agreement with Tata Steel (then TISCO). The delegation argued that the decision would adversely affect the entire region and the small and medium industrial units in the Adityapur industrial area (AIA) that sell their products to TGS.
“As per the land utilisation plan, TGS has completed constructing a water harvesting plant covering 30 acres. Another vacant 27 acres have been used for building 132KVA substation. The company proposes to utilise another 90 acres for its expansion project that would be wrapped up by 2010,” Singh added. As per the expansion plan, TGS will develop an open fabrication yard, an incoming material section and a forging unit.
“Since the company aimed to complete implementing the land utilisation plan in a couple of years — this was also communicated to Aiada — we feel that the decision to scrap the land agreement was too hasty. Not only TGS, around 32 vendors of the company based in AIA would be affected,” added another councillor.
The members said Aiada should have come up with schemes to help the industrial units at a time when they are reeling under theeconomic slump.
“We are going to inform the deputy chief minister about what we have seen there and call upon the state government to veto Aiada’s decision. The AMC would not be a part of any anti industry decision,” said Singh.
